PLASMA (pronunciation: plaz – mAh)
Etymology: late Latin – something molded

  1. a collection of charged particles containing about equal numbers of positive ions and electrons and exhibiting some properties of a gas but different from a gas in being a good conductor of electricity and in being affected by a magnetic field.

DIS-PLAY (pronunciation: di – ’splA)
Etymology: Anglo-French

  1. setting or presentation of something in open view
  2. an eye-catching arrangement by which something is exhibited
  3. an electronic device that temporarily presents information in visual form.

LCD (pronunciation: el – sE – dE)
Etymology: abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Display

  1. a constantly operating display that consists of segments of liquid crystal whose reflectivity varies according to the voltage applied to them.

LED (pronunciation: el – E – ’dE)
Etymology: abbreviation of – Light Emitting Diode A semi conductor diode that emits light when a voltage is applied to it and that is used in an electronic display.

PIXEL (pronunciation: pix – sel)
Etymology: pix + element

  1. any of the small discrete elements that together constitute an image – as in a Television screen.

VID-EO (pronunciation: vid – dE – ’O)
Etymology: Latin: videre – to see + o as in audio

  1. the visual portion of television
  2. being, relating to, or involving images on a television or computer display

DLP (pronunciation: dE – eL – pE)
Etymology: abbreviation of – Digital Light Processing

  1. utilizing DMD – digital micro-mirror devices that enable upon a screen surface hundreds of thousands of minute mirrors to refract light to compose a complete data or video image

PROJECTION (pronounciation: pro – jek – shen)

  1. the display of still or motion pictures by projecting an image.
